I would suggest that this is THE great, underestimated album by REM, created off the back of becoming just three, I believe, following Bill Berry's illness. At Your Most Beautiful is one of the greatest love songs (written by that very man) you will ever hear, while there is not a weak song on the album in my opinion.

Others have written very eloquently here on the merits of this wonderfully-articulate, brave but underrated album, so I'll only add what's wrong with it: it's too long. Like other of R.E.M.'s albums, it lacks judicious editing. It dips quite noticeably in the middle, and this is where I'd shave off a couple of tracks. I don't think anyone would miss 'The Apologist' and 'Walk Unafraid' could go too, but this may be open for debate. Try and get this on the 24 bit DVD-A if you can - it sounds fabulous and really does the record the sonic justice it deserves.

A very good album from REM - a gig fan of theirs having grown up with them and this one has stood the test of time since my uni days.COntains two or 3 classics and some real emotion unlike some of their later records which were hit and miss - probably the last of theirgreat records before their very last album........

Not close to the high standards albums of the late 80s/early 90s, but still produced some classic singles like Lotus. An extra star for the really good sound and production of this album!

This was a present for my son who like me - his mum - is also a huge REM fan and he loves it.
