Q: How does it compare to a Bernard 40B?

The 770028 Accepts rods up to 5/16 inch. A quarter turn of the handle loosens the rod for removal or replacement. Electrodes burn within 1 inch from the head and can be bent to any angle and still be held secure. Compact design accepts #2 cable. rated at 400 amps. The Bernard 40B takes up to 1/4 inch electrodes and can burn to a 1 inch stub. They have very similar specs and ratings.

The electrode holder can be used with the Lincoln welder.

Q: Does it take abusive drops? Or does it break easily?

It is a heavy duty 400 amp electrode holder. It will survive drops but will not with stand being used as a hammer. It is a heavy nonconductive construction.

yes it will, its the type most pro welders use.
