Q: How wide is the cutting surface?

Approximately 2 inches. The blade is set at an angle so it's length is greater than the width of the cutting suftace.

Q: Could this slice garlic? I can't tell by the picture if that little green piece would hold garlic in to slice.

I have sliced jumbo garlic with my mini mandolin. I trim it first to have a flat surface to begin with. Hope this helps.

Quite thin. Probably less than 1/8". It is very handy for small jobs. I purchased an extra to keep in our RV.
