Round and round and round and round
I designed a clock and the centre mechanism consists of concentric hollow axles. The bearings are used to clamp on each axle and maintain the centrality of the axles.The bearings seemed ok, some were a little bit more "scratchy" than others, so that may be an issue for some uses, for mine where there was a very light load this did not present a problem.
