All Natural Vegan Broth Base & Seasoning, Chicken, 6 Ounce (Update Version)

To be honest, I haven't eaten chicken in nearly 30 years so maybe I'm not the best one to critique a "chicken flavored" item, but I am telling you -- the taste of this took me back to 1990. It tastes like chicken from what I remember! I originally bought it to make a broth to pour over my dogs' kibble... however, now I think I might have plans for it for myself, lol.// UPDATE SINCE PURCHASE ///I still stand by what I wrote about this product; that it's a vegan version of what I think taste like chicken. However, after looking at the Sodium content to this product, I am unable to feel relaxed consuming it, or even sharing it with my dogs, due to its high Sodium level. It saddens me because, yes, it really takes amazing. I am lowering it 1 star due to that Sodium factor. I don't want to lower it further than that because I feel the company made a good product, it's just that bouillion sodium is tricky for some of us.

If you are newly vegetarian/vegan like me (ok, I'm maybe not 100%), and you like using chicken broth either for a simple soup or in recipes, this Orrington Farms broth base is a good choice. To start, it smells and looks like chicken broth. But more importantly, it tastes like chicken. Sure, maybe not the deep poultry umami you get from real chicken stock or demi-glace, but it's still a nice rich flavor.One really good thing is that unlike some other vegan bouillon, it's not just pure salt. In fact, when I use it to make sauces, I need to add some salt to really bring out the flavor, which is a good thing as it allows me to control the amount of sodium and the intensity of the flavor. Sometimes, though, I just want a nice soothing cup of broth and this does the trick for that as well.

I am quite pleased! This vegan broth really does taste a lot like the real thing. Since going vegetarian last year I have not been missing eating meat but have been craving the broth of chicken soup. I've tried a few vegetarian/vegan broths & bouillon cubes but none really mimicked the flavor well enough to satisfy my craving. I am so glad that I tried this Orrington Farms Vegan "chicken" broth base because I finally found a winner. It is close enough to the real deal to satisfy my taste buds. I will definitely purchase it again.

I recieved this item and used about 1/4 of this jar to make two very large pot pies. Along with the broth base I added potatoes that I had chopped and boiled, peas, carrots, fake chicken, unsweetened almond milk, parsley, thyme, salt and pepper, garlic, onion powder, vegan butter, and basil. I made a standard baking soda biscuit recipe for the tops of the massive pot pies. They turned out so delicious, I am not sure how I would ever go without the broth base for anything that I want to taste like chicken. I am going to try soup next. My only complaint is that I like things to have a LOT of flavor, no boring dishes in my kitchen, so I had to use a lot of the mix to get the desired taste I wanted. As I said, I made two HUGE pot pies that included potatoes. They were both almost sheet pan sized. As you know, potatoes tend to absorb flavors, but I still wish I could have put less so that the jar would last longer. Still, it's magic. Wish it was available at our grocer, cheaper, or came in a larger size.

I read a review of this on Cook's Illustrated, where it was top rated, so decided to give it a try. I'm not a vegan, but use chicken broth fairly frequently and this seemed like a good alternative to crowding my pantry with big cartons of chicken broth. I used it in a batch of risotto and it was great; nice flavor and my husband had no idea it wasn't regular chicken broth. I will be buying more of this; it's so convenient and a nice alternative to canned or boxed broth. Plus, I don't have to worry when using this when we have vegan or vegetarian guests.

If a soup doesn't contain meat then I use this stock - why not make soup vegetarian if you can so meat-eaters and vegetarians can eat the same soup. Nobody has noticed any issues with my soups so I will keep using it since it cuts my workload

I actually can't tell the difference between this and real chicken stock. I use this to make vegan chicken tortilla soup. My girlfriend is Mexican and eats meat. She likes my tortilla soup it made with this stock. I split the recipe at the end and add chicken to one portion and no chicken to another. My girlfriend's daughter is a chef at a local high highfalutin restaurant. Her daughter does not realize that I do not use real chicken stock in my tortilla soup. She loves the recipe I make and told me not to change a thing. I always have to make more tortilla soup than my girlfriend and I can eat because when the rest of the family finds out I made it they always want some. What would make this 5 stars for me? Less sodium. It is what it is.
